Zen, Jjacks1, and racing fans across the nation, I want to ask you which racetrack do you prefer to host the Breeders' Cup after 2014, between 2015 and 2030?

(Hint1: It has be a major racetrack that has both the main track (dirt or synthetic) and a turf course)
(Hint2: It has to be on a racetrack that has live horse racing during the end of October or the first week of November)

Here's a look at my list:

2015 Del Mar Fall Meet
2016 Belmont Park
2017 Churchill Downs
2018 Woodbine (Canada)
2019 Keeneland
2020 Santa Anita Autumn Meet
2021 Churchill Downs
2022 Belmont Park
2023 Santa Anita Autumn Meet
2024 Gulfstream Park
2025 Belmont Park
2026 Laurel Park
2027 Belmont Park
2028 Churchill Downs
2029 Gulfstream Park
2030 Del Mar Fall Meet

The Tin Man

Santa Anita ...

Aside from its proximity to me ... I feel that championships should be optimum weather places. I don't want to know who the best mudder is ... I want to know who the best racehorse is.

Sick of so many big races being run in slop.

JMHO

jjacks1

Churchill Downs.

It would be nice to see if horses can still run when there is weather. Kinda like football players out on the Frozen Tundra at Green Bay! Go outside! Man up and do it! Even in the rain!  ;D

JMHO also Tin Man!  :girlkiss:

2030 Del Mar Fall Meet

Jjacks1 and Tin Man, both of you have a little bit of misunderstanding about my question, which of the racetracks do you prefer to host the Breeders' Cup between 2015-2030? It should be different major racetracks that have both the main track and a turf course, and these racetracks that have live horse racing during the final week of October and the first week of November for the Breeders' Cup between 2015-2030? Create you own list of different major racetracks that you prefer to host the Breeders' Cup between 2015 and 2030. (Hint: it should be on a major racetrack that has both the dirt track and a turf course, or a synthetic sand track and a turf course)

2015 Del Mar Fall Meet : the facility is too small, replace with Santa Anita
2016 Belmont Park
2017 Churchill Downs
2018 Woodbine (Canada)
2019 Keeneland: the facility is too small, replace with Churchill
2020 Santa Anita Autumn Meet
2021 Churchill Downs
2022 Belmont Park
2023 Santa Anita Autumn Meet
2024 Gulfstream Park: when Stronach "remodelled" Gulfstream, the grandstand became too small to accommodate a BC crowd
2025 Belmont Park
2026 Laurel Park: the facility is too small, replace with Santa Anita
2027 Belmont Park
2028 Churchill Downs
2029 Gulfstream Park: see above
2030 Del Mar Fall Meet: see above
Now, if Gulfstream, Keeneland or Laurel could miraculously undergo some necessary rebuilding, then they could be considered (although IMHO lovely and historic Keeneland should be left just the way it is). I doubt that could happen with Del Mar, since it's on property owned by the state and used for many other purposes throughout the year. That will likely restrict any major construction.

Baroque, are there any racetracks beside the Santa Anita Autumn Meet and the Santa Anita Fall Meet that you want to host the Breeders' Cup in 2015, what about Woodbine?

Zenyatta

I agree with Baroque, the BC would have to be a few fries short of a happy meal to have Del Mar host the event. It is FAR too small of a track, the turf track in particular is lilliputian, not nearly wide enough, and the stands simply couldn't accommodate the throng.

This being said, opening day does accommodate at least 40K, but very uncomfortably, there's always lines to the bathrooms and forget about grabbing a drink. If it's that bad with 40K, think of the lunacy with 60K there. There would probably be a bigger crowd than at SA, I wouldn't doubt it. It's a smaller metro area and the locals support their local venues with great enthusiasm.

Still, my major concern above all would be the turf track. I had heard they wanted to widen it but how, I can't figure out.

Zenyatta

I understand Stronach, who also owns San Luis Rey Downs, is doing some major reconstruction and expansion there. I know he wants to turn it into a world-class training facility with much needed stables, but whether he's got something else up his sleeve,  who knows?

Senator L

Woodbine is to small now. They use the whole first floor for the casino. I would like it to go back to churchill they support racing the best

Zen, we cannot have four years of the Breeders' Cup World Championships to be in the same racetrack during that period, because that doesn't give much variety to the horse racing fans across the nation. Imagine if they put the Breeders' Cup at Churchill Downs in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, racing fans will get tired of it. Two or three consecutive years of the Breeders' Cup in the same location, that's enough for me and some of the horse racing fans across the nation. If they go for four, it's way too much, and it doesn't give much variety to the horse racing fans. In my opinion, Breeders' Cup needs to be in different racetracks every year, or two to three consecutive years of the Breeders' Cup in one particular major racetrack.

BaroqueAgain1

I didn't know that about Woodbine, Senator L. That's a shame, because that's a nice, big track, with a spacious turf course that can accommodate big fields. I also think their synthetic is well-regarded as a fair, safe surface...one that would be good to have if the BC had the sort of rain that Monmouth got.
Well, shoot...that pretty much limits the BC's choices to Belmont, Churchill and Santa Anita.

Just as in the other thread, I'm not sure what you are responding to in my post.
