Quote from: Senator L on September 02, 2016, 11:57:58 AMWhen I was a teenager, my uncle and a friend claimed a quarter horse--off of Doc Allred--for 4k at Los Alamitos. They ran it back and it won for 5k and then its' form deteriorated and they dropped it in for 3k some 9-10 months later. Lukas claimed that horse from them and moved it right up the ladder finally winning an allowance race. When he first got into TB's I remember Lukas bought Effervescing from the Phipps and won the American Handicap at 9f on the turf--expected--and then five days later won the Citation Handicap at 8.5f on the dirt--highly unexpected. Lukas has always had the ability to know when he had a horse right and then he ran them as often a he could when they were at that peak. Happy Birthday from me and Border Run.
Happy Birthday D.Wayne Lukas the only trainer in the
history of racing to be inducted into both, the quarter horse
and thoroughbred Hall of Fame. :chickendance:
