Whew!....that's one long article :chickendance:
All that money, a triple crown champion and each talk
bad about each other.

I don't mind if they talk bad about each other. They're big boys. But why does Zayat have to disrespect California Chrome this way: " 'I just want history to decide who is the better horse. I believe they don't breathe the same air. I'm not saying California Chrome is not a great horse. He's a very good horse, but he is not as good as American Pharoah.' "
Of course Zayat boosts his own horse. That's perfectly understandable. But Chrome can't be blamed for what humans do. His record so far this year has been amazing and great in a different way from winning the TC. Isn't it possible to celebrate both horses without this juvenile competitiveness?

I'm not taking sides, it's all locker room banter.

Yes he has an ego but he can also train and I've met trainers with just as much ego that couldn't train a fish to swim. He makes some decent points about Espinoza, in my opinion, he's been coasting for a few years now. He's riding well this year but he's also not mailing it in, either. He made his way to the top on the circuit in 2000-'03 and then he was top three--and alright with it--then top five, seven, ten, etc. He'll probably get in to the Hall of Fame, based on the last two years and the brilliance, both consistent and occasional that he's shown over the years. I do hope he cut Martin Garcia in for some of those sponsorships for all the work Martin did with Pharoah in the mornings.
Small wonder horse racing has become marginalized. What a sniping bunch of commentary from someone who so relishes the limelight. Baffert can sit with his f-ing coffee at Clockers' Corner and not needs to worry about falling off a horse and never walking again; jockeys DO. If Victor wants to capitalize on his time in the sun post-AP, more power to him.
And what an ego, saying Victor wasn't a money rider till AP. CC predated him. And it gave me a great deal of satisfaction to see Gormley beat Klimt in the Forerunner. Maybe if Victor had been riding him he might have won.
