From the last link...

"However, there's nothing preventing a national governing body from implementing its own regulations beyond those of the racing commissions."

If "nothing" includes each and every track and state and locality and the legions of lawyers they'll hire to influence each and every politician who might possibly be involved with any possible legislation needed to do whatever the hell any of us might think is needed to fix whatever the hell any of us believe needs fixing then yeah, there's nothing preventing that.

Now I know not to wish any of you luck with all that, since real horseplayers don't believe in luck.

Which leaves us right where we are and shall remain.

I understand the supposed idea was to let the old guy win but they did check out wagering patterns and all so that was a consideration.
If this were a Dick Francis story the race would have been fixed and everyone would assume it was for the old guy, but it would actually have been set up as a betting coup.
In any case the idea of a bunch of jockeys hanging on by the skin of their teeth doing this with the press there for the 1st time in forever is a far longer shot than I'd ever bet on, and that one of them got so harsh a penalty is shameful. Watch a full card at Fairmount sometime and count how many mounts run strangely or hardly at all.

Case not proven.
LeJeune getting 60 days for that is a travesty.

I actually do lightly play Dog Food Downs...I mean Fairmount...on occasion since it's charming to me how the track announcer calls the horsies "harses" but it really is the bottom level or at least pretty much as close as yer gonna get in America. The idea of fixing a race with minimal pools (if someone cares to research the total bet on a similar weekday race aside from that one I'll guarantee it'll be a lot less) and not even have the fix come in is just plain silly.

If I had, oh, $1,500 handy I'd buy the track and fire the stewards who overacted on this.
Oops! The state hires the stewards!
So I'd just have to frame them somehow...

Last again! That's 4 times this year!
I assume y'all understand I'm doing this on purpose to set the new record?

What is the record, btw? Can I stop now?

FRIDAY:

6th - Marathon

Commander
Cease

No one else made my sheet.

7th - JV (T)

Outstrip gets the nod if only because of having a somewhat more impressive campaign so far. Bobby's Kitten is a sort that could blossom but may not quite be there yet. Bashart next, though frankly I haven't been all that impressed to this point.

8th - Mile

Bru Jo De Olleros, if only because I'm not terribly impressed by the rest. Will probably go off over the ML and could be a good gimmick play. If you think Goldecents can stay for a share he's a must use, and if you think Hymn Book can close likewise.
Good luck with that.

9th - Juv F (T)

Ready To Act got my class number, and though this is a fairly decent field I'll use her on top. Something like 11 - (2, 4, 10, 14) and half back over.

10th - Distaff

Unless you have some compelling REASON to believe Royal Delta will have one of her occasional off days tomorrow how can you bet against her?
OTOH, 4 of the other 5 COULD win this.
RD wins, I suppose, but exactly how to bet if at all remains a mystery as for now.
