Well, he's in Dubai...
http://www.horseracingnation.com/blogs/zatt/California_Chrome_The_Right_Horse_to_Win_One_for_America_123
Here's wishing him all the luck in the world!
Hopefully, he will not need it and/or make his own but you cannot help but wish him well.
Many still see him as the favorite with Constitution out, but African Story really stepped up in the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge so the defending champion has shown he can run on dirt too.
We'll see what other foreign entries there are though the US is the class of the field.
http://www.drf.com/news/california-chrome-leads-us-group-16-dubai
Still, California Chrome and Lea figure to be the favorites in an expected nine-horse field that also includes two former American runners, Candy Boy and Ron the Greek, the latter based in Saudi Arabia, and the former having been based in the United Arab Emirates since January following his private purchase. The others invited to the World Cup and expected to run are African Story, Epiphaneia, Hokko Tarumae, Prince Bishop, and Side Glance.
African Story
California Chrome
Candy Boy
Epiphineia (winner of the Hong Kong Vase)
Hokko Tarumae
Lea
Prince Bishop
Ron The Greek
Side Glance (who Main Sequence bested last year in the UN)
This looks very doable for California Chrome if he likes the track - though African Story could be his chief competition. We do not know if Lea will like the distance. And who knows if Ron The Greek can return to his US form.

We'll see if Main Sequence can do it without Lasix.
Let's hope he's not gutted when he gets back, like most are.
I don't really care if he wins or not, just want him to have a safe trip.
Me too. A win would be icing on the cake.
Want him back safe and sound ASAP.
Glad that Bayern, Shared Belief and Hoppertunity didn't go ... at least we should now get to see a full season from them. :)

I like the fields - Thanks for the DATA!
Ron the Greek out? :-[
And does anyone know where you can watch this on TV?
If I recall last year, you could watch it on the internet.
Thanks for posting the fields.
I hope Salutos Amigos runs well. I remember when he broke his
maiden I mouthed off at the OTB this one would be a star...he
didn't win another race until a year later (or more). So every time
he races people will say "hey your star is running" lol
but he has picked it up quite a bit this last while so I hope he does well :celebrate:

Here are the barn notes.
Seems like everybody is happy so far and Long River seems to be pointed to the DWC too.

The move to the East Coast did him a lot of good! ;)
Does that make him just an East Coast horse now?
Is it the weather or track? I think he has enough
confidence now he won't be losing :chickendance:

Anxious to read how Chrome did this morning.

"There is no pressure, we just have to keep our minds on the job and at the same time try to enjoy every minute of the experience.
"He's given us more than we can ask for so we can't worry about the future. As long as he tries his hardest, like he always does, we'll be happy."
Exactly how I feel. Icing on the cake.

Here's what I've been waiting to see...
http://www1.skysports.com/racing/news/12040/9774020/california-chrome-delights-connections-with-meydan-spin
Dubai World Cup favourite California Chrome delighted his connections in a 5am spin on the dirt track at Meydan on Tuesday.
Working under the floodlights, the chestnut cast a spectacular sight in front of camera crews and reporters who gathered for the exercise.
The 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner blew out over a circuit of the track, easily recognisable in the distinctive purple blinkers applied by Art Sherman.

He certainly has not been recently, that is for certain.
However, I do not know that he has faced horses the quality of Palace Malice, Shared Belief, Honor Code, or Private Zone yet.
Dad's Caps is a good horse, but these others are a step up I think. It should be interesting to see how he does in Dubai. That will certainly give us a reading.
Toady's notes from Bloodhorse
California Chrome—With exercise rider Dana Barnes in tow, Dubai World Cup contender California Chrome breezed a half mile early Tuesday morning in :50 over a fast Meydan main track.
"He got the last eighth in 11 seconds," said Alan Sherman, assistant and son of trainer Art Sherman. "We just wanted to stretch his legs. If he's not fit by now, it's too late."
With all six of his wins as a 3-year-old coming against restricted company, California Chrome took full advantage of his sophomore season to claim Eclipse Award honors as Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male, but Sherman believes he can be as successful now that he is facing older horses.
"He's not a real heavy horse but I do think he's grown into his 4-year-old season and that he's a lot stronger," Sherman said. "I'm just glad the owners (Steve Coburn and Perry Martin) decided to run him another year."
Jockey Victor Espinoza, who has partnered with Chrome for his last 11 runs, will be back aboard for Saturday's Dubai World Cup.

Well, to me, he's an East Coast horse now ... but he started out here, so he'll always be part of the family. I always root for any horse who has run out here, when they're running elsewhere ... and am always thrilled when they blossom like he and Moreno have with the change of scenery. :)
I can't wait till Chrome becomes East Coast...lol...one can dream.

I just hope he runs again after Dubai.
A safe return is all we want.
I think the Met Mile would be a nice tune-up if they plan to go to Royal Ascot.

A good effort by Chrome losing to a horse on his home surface.
I know some here may have misgivings about his being shipped to Newmarket, but if he is to compete at his best there, this gives him his best chance.
He'll have a prep next month before the Prince of Wales Stakes at 10 furolngs.
Hopefully, we'll see him racing in the summer in the US.
It seems that the Arlington Million is a definite for him in mid August making the Pacific Classic and Whitney a no go.
This means his first race back could be the Gold Cup since I would think they will want to bring him back to California after Royal Ascot?
Then he'll tune up for the BC Classic maybe in the Awesome Again with Shared Belief.
I think we're done seeing him race in the U. S. with the exception of the Breeders' Cup ... if he does well in England, it will be on to Hong Kong next.
Wow. I know he's had invitations there as well, but I am hoping they bring him back to the US. Steve Coburn seemed very excited about the prospect of running him in that race so I think he'll make an effort to get him there. That doesn't help us coasters.

Unfortunately, Steve is only one of the owners.
Does anyone know when the ownership became less than 50/50 :thanks:

Don't know, but I've known this all along as I know Steve and have known his feelings all along ... but just was not at liberty to say ...
But now that Art has made the truth public, maybe people will start getting off of Steve's tip. (Not saying you Senator ... my barb is aimed at the general public)
Steve is the heart guy who cares about and loves the horse like his own son ... if it were up to him, Chrome's personal well being would always be first and foremost ...
Perry bases every decision on MONEY. He will always chase the dollar ... he is the ONLY Chrome connection who puts money first ...
And he's majority owner, so there is nothing everyone else can do.
Contrary to popular belief, Steve is the good guy in Chrome's ownership ...
I'd better not elaborate more.
(For those who don't know, Art made public in a Blood horse article that Perry is the majority owner making the calls essentially on his own ... glad to see that that finally got out. Kudos to Art for that!)
Thanks for the update Tin Man. I hope everything works out ok
for everyone involved, including California Chrome.
