Unlikely to make a resurgence. Not profitable enough. But, if you got an outstanding stallion that is a shy breeder, it would probably get at least some mares in foal to him.
I wonder if the Japanese have tried this tactic with the beyond-just-shy War Emblem?

Seems like I remember that they did that with Foolish Pleasure, mainly because he was high spirited to the point of being almost mean. A trait he passed on, reportedly, to his son Marfa.
IIRC, they would just grab Storm Cat from the field, let him do his business and turn him back out- he was much easier to handle that way coming directly from the field rather than taking him from the stall for his dates. Not exactly the same thing, but still not the usual way that most farms do it. Winstar shines up their stallions like copper pennies before they bred.
