Private Zone has had arthroscopic surgery to 'clean up' his knees, and will be out for the rest of the year.

Maybe it's time to retire this hard-trying gelding?  ???

I might even give Catch a Glimpse the 'edge' now, since she's won more races so far this year, defeated some touted Euros in the Belmont Invitational, and beat males in the Penn Mile.

Maybe they picked silver because it's sort of chrome colored?  ;)
IIRC, DAP is well and truly dissolved, but the two probably are still entangled with shared ownership of a few horses, like 'Chrome's little sister. So, a new name for a new version of a partnership?

I suspect that, when both the Derby and Preakness winners entered the race, some connections opted to find a slightly softer spot.  ;)
It may be a small field, but IMHO it's a high-quality one.

There's an update for Big Book, which doesn't sound wonderful.  :(
Vets uncertain whether they can save Big Book
Big Book, a three-time winner who was graded stakes-placed last year, remained under evaluation on Sunday, a day after sustaining sesamoid injuries in a workout at Del Mar. Trainer Tim Yakteen said veterinarians were assessing whether Big Book could undergo an operation and be saved as a broodmare.

Well, that was impressive. Carina Mia might have thought she had a chance when she pulled alongside Songbird on the turn....but then Mike really asked his filly to run. Bye-bye. Won with her ears pricked.  ;D

The filly Fasnacloich broke down in the 2nd, a 1-mile AOC on the turf and, per DRF's Privman, her injuries were so severe that she has been euthanized.  :'(

My (purely amateur) take on the decision is that her connections could see that her heart wasn't in the game anymore.
She's a talented filly but she seemed to have shown a growing disinclination to run all out in her last couple of races. I've observed that when a filly or mare decides that they no longer want to go along with all the aggravation of being a racehorse, there is very little a trainer can do about it.  ;)
They could have given her more time off but, even if her works were good, I suspect that when she broke from the gate in an actual race, she would have been putting in a half-hearted effort. So, her connections probably saw no point in risking injury to a filly whose pedigree is one-of-a-kind.

IIRC, the name of the horse who pulled up entering the stretch in the 8th was Ish.

Dortmund made it a bit closer than I thought he would after that long layoff. He should improve off this race and, unless 'Chrome also improves, it's possible that Dortzilla could get his Kaiju-sized nose in front next time.
Dang, the Pacific Classic is looking like it could be the best race of the year...until the BC, at least.  ;)

I loved the way he dropped his head and ran down the leaders. As he charged through the wire with that lowered head, he reminded me of the way his granddaddy ran.  :)

Sophomore colt Stradivari, contestant in two of this year's three Triple Crown races, was injured during training at Saratoga Friday morning. Breezing five furlongs in company with fellow Todd Pletcher trainee and Belmont Stakes runner-up Destin, Stradivari was pulled up sharply during the gallop out by exercise rider Patti Krotenko. He was vanned off the main track.
According to the Daily Racing Form, Stradivari suffered a lateral condylar fracture of his right front leg. He has been transported to the Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Saratoga to be evaluated for surgery.
"The X-rays were not as bad as we first feared, the sesamoids are intact," trainer Todd Pletcher said. "Just waiting to hear back."

I hope the MdO colt recovers completely, but I have doubts that we will get to see him on the track again.  :(

I sort of caught that race on TVG, EP, and if I heard correctly, there was a horse named World War in the same race as DM.
There does seem to be a theme.

I wouldn't mind if everyone still called it the Lady's Secret. While Zen surely deserves to have a G1 (or two) named after her, kicking the name of Lady's Secret off the marquee in order to get it is just wrong.
Showing respect to one great horse should not mean disrespecting another.  >:(

TVG showed Dortzilla schooling in the Del Mar paddock earlier and the big chestnut looked good. However, IMHO he didn't look as 'cut' as I would expect for a horse just a few days out from a race.
I'm thinking he may need a race to help get him back in top form, and I suspect that 'Chrome, who has already run a few times this year, will be sharper.
