Racing / Re: Tackiest BC coverage ever - thanks NBC

I chose to watch the races on computer, on the Breeders Cup site.  They had the HRTV feed all day.  Obviously, lots of talking heads with opinions, if you like that sort of stuff, but I was impressed with their insights all day long (I don't have HRTV).

So, next year just watch it on your computer if you don't like NBC's effort to tailor the show to appeal to more than just hard core horse racing fans.

Racing / D. Wayne Lukas . . . .
November 02, 2013, 06:07:53 PM
. . . who would have thunk it, he was two inches from having another --- and unlikely --- BCC winner and probably horse of the year.

He provides hope and inspiration for all of us geezers everywhere!     :thanks:

Looking forward to seeing Will Take Charge next year.

He's a fine horse. He hasn't had it on the Big Day these past two years, but he's a very fine horse.

I agree, he is a terrific horse, just not a great horse.

But when top notch horses fly into SoCal and look him in the eye, sadly he caves in.

Racing / The massively overrated Game On Dude. . ..
November 02, 2013, 05:51:31 PM
. . . I'll say it.

Game on Dude beats up on weaker competition, but when forced to race against equals and near-equals --- even at his home race track two years in a row --- he absolutely cannot get it done.  SO overrated.

I am really glad I didn't wager on those 3, and am ashamed at jumping off the Groupie Doll bandwagon.

You should be ashamed for turning your back on our beloved champion Groupie Doll, Ms. Drone Bee!   :flaming:

Was there some sort of neurological damage that contributed to this? What would cause this kind of thing to happen?

So the horses flown to LA for the Breeders Cup from Europe and the east coast should have stayed home because the flight was too stressful?

Flying for one race is quite a bit different than flying then having to do likewise then service a hundred more mares than you ordinarily would if you only stood in one hemisphere. Let's see you do that and how you fare as a result.

So, it has nothing to do with the flying.  Its all about how many mares they service a year?

Huh? Where in my comment did I suggest it had anything to do with flying?

I asked if there was some sort of underlying neurological damage that might have contributed to HH's demise.

Oops, sorry, I was attempting to just quote Zenyatta's post blaming this horse's demise on "shuttling" (flying) to South America.

Good for Mike and Gary.

Happy to see these guys having such success.

Wish Garrett Gomez was still doing well.  :>(

The Distaff is so hard for me to pick.  My head tells me Beholder will win.  But my heart wants 3/4 of the field.  ;)

Nice pick.

Hope you supported your view at the betting windows with enthusiasm     :rhrse:

Superb in-depth article by Tim Layden on Jeff's struggle to create a new life, following the catastrophic injuries he received when Tabasco Cat ran him down.  Lots of photos and video. D. Wayne and the rest of the family; his racing colleagues (Pletcher, Stewart, McLaughlin, etc.); the doctor who saved his life -- were all interviewed for the story.

Thanks for the link.

Really well-written article.

Bittersweet story.

Racing / Re: Breeders' Cup Broadcast Coverage

I think all the races are shown live on the internet at the BC official site.

Don't know if they are "poaching" HRTV or NBC Sports coverage.

Our local CBS affiliate is at Santa Anita this morning. They just interviewed Aaron Gryder.

Aaron, I love you as a jockey, but you seriously must pursue a career in broadcast journalism.

. . . and as an underwear model for his tight butt, Zenyatta?    :lmao:

As Vic in Chicago (of this Board) said to me after watching Royal Delta and Princess of Sylmar finish up the track, "that's why they run the race."

Me too. She's 3 year old filly champion as far as I'm concerned.

Too bad about Princess of Sylmar, I really wanted to see her in the mix at the end.

Didn't you see the race?  She was "in the mix at the end."

The END of the field as it finished!    :chickendance:
