Is this the same Woodmans Luck who gained fame (or became infamous) in this photo when he tried to bite another horse last year at Del Mar?

Benoit & Associates
A frustrated Woodmans Luck tries to take a bite out of Romeo Royale during the sixth race on Saturday at Del Mar. Romeo Royale went on the win the race and came out of it unscathed.

Good for him that he figured out it's better to keep his head straight near the wire. :D

That is him!

Wouldn't it be the other way around? If a caller is accurate and fast enough to keep up with Quarterhorses, IMO, calling TBs should be a breeze.  ;)

Not as many moves in QH racing you gun em and the race is over in a blink. In TB racing you need to pay a lot more attention as the horses move position.

Thanks for posting Dave.

Everything the author says was true at the time, and it's still true.

Agree - depressing isn't it?

Its not attendance that was the issue. There is more than enough money being bet on the races.

It's the infinitesimal cut HP was getting from the online gaming. Less than 1% track connections have told me.

You would think the actual product would get a decent cut. That was not the case. That deal was a sick sick joke.

AMEN and BetFair did them no favors

Slightly off-point here, but I read elsewhere that Ed Burgart of Los Al says he will call both the thoroughbred races during the day and the quarter horses at night when both run at Los Al.

Wonder what Vic Stouffer will do now.  Try and get race-calling gigs out of state?

Didn't he try being a jockey's agent for a while a couple of years back?  Wonder if he will try that again just to stay local.

I wish him the best of luck, whatever he decides to do.

Ed is good at QH calls...not sure he can keep up with thoroughbreds!

Headed to the track now. Gonna stay until they kick me out tomorrow. Don't want it to end.

Today may be emotional. Tomorrow WILL be.

Checking my man card tomorrow for sure. HollyPark is worth it.

:-X

So agree - not a bad crowd today - need to get myself up and out early - from all reports - track should be packed.. geez I do not how I will take this...

I wish so too. It is truly a gem. Best track, best paddock, best winner's circle, traditionally safest track(most important), most beautiful gardening and infield and backside in SoCal IMO.

Background scenery goes to Santa Anita. Love Clocker's Corner too!

Del Mar ... Meh ... I've nothing good to say about it ...
I so agree with Tin Man - I do not "do" DelMar - not comfy - not friendly and too dang small - once it is no longer a boutique meet we shall see how the attendance goes

But the 2 left ... Holly and Woody ... were very apparent over the weekend. That was cool ... looking at and being proud of those 2 renegades who dared to stay until the very end!

More power to them!

Yes - they sure stood out@ I am going Sunday - nervous about it,,

Fantastic! I love that they did an article on the escapees!

I'm so glad they escaped! They should have all been there through the last day of racing ... so I'm glad that at least 2 of them made it.

I've been calling them Holly and Woody.  :D

These two do NOT want to go! Glad they are taking a break and allowing them to stay for a bit. Cute names Tin Man - was really a change to not see them... sad

I like HP too.

Although SA gets all the hype, with the mountains in the background, I have long preferred HP.  Perhaps it is because I sometimes attended during the late spring - early summer meet, when the temps were nice and the sun was always shining.  For years it seemed better maintained and landscaped than SA, with fresher paint, more flowers, the sparkling lake, and the always-present sunshine.  In contrast, most of my visits to SA were during the late winter-early spring meet, when it was often overcast, cold and rainy.  Yuck. If I want that, I will go to New York for winter racing.

Too bad the economic forces battering horse racing and HP's terrible location in Inglewood contributed to cause its demise.

I love Hollywood - the location is very accessible - I will be there Sunday = have my box - anyone want to share - I have 4 seats and just me going - section 210
