Whatever Happened To? / Re: In Memoriam
July 20, 2016, 10:08:39 AM
I know that losing a horse you loved and had such high hopes for is tragic, but I can't help but think that there may have been some other bad things going on in her life to push her to do this.  :(
Condolences to her family and friends.

I hate it when a baby is lost.
Condolences to her connections for losing such a promising and sweet youngster.

TVG showed her workout this morning and she looked fabulous...as usual.  ;)
The hosts had some discussion about the choice for the Three-Year-Old Filly award at the end of the year if Catch a Glimpse and Songbird continue their dominance in their respective categories.
I wasn't surprised that they were leaning toward the top dirt filly, although someone did point out that Carina Mia could be a danger to Songbird's unbeaten streak. I happen to favor CAG ATM, mainly because she's had more races and has also been facing what could be argued is stronger competition.
We have loads of good fillies and mares this year, so trying to choose who's better is a nice problem to have.  ;D

IIRC, TVG got some quotes from the trainer(s) of Vyjack and Lt. Colonel, and they want to run the horses on dirt instead of the turf.  ???

The front view was dramatic enough. While I agree that IAC was the best in the race, she bodyslammed the three horses inside of her so hard that that they went sideways. One or more of the riders could have lost their seats.
Since one of the main reasons stewards may disqualify a horse is to enforce safe riding, IMHO this decision kind of ignored safety.  :(

TVG just put up a list of 'probables' for the San Diego...more horses than I thought might be probable...and a couple names caught my eye; Arrogate and Dalmore.
I thought Baffert was thinking of sending Arrogate back East for one of the sophomore stakes, but if he actually goes here, IMO he might be a bigger threat than Dortzilla. Not literally, of course.  ;)

When it comes to renowned historical figures, I think that the breeders and owners of well-bred youngsters feel that it's a sign of respect to name their horse after someone. That beautiful colt carries their hopes that he could be another Galileo or Frankel.

I know Andy gives his opinion based on who he thinks he should bet, but I suspect that he is fully capable of understanding who the public is going to bet. IMHO, he'd be a fine ML odds maker.

Actually, you could listen to Tom as he "will lead personalized tours of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame throughout the Saratoga Race Course meeting this summer from July 22 through Sept. 5."

"I think Beholder is the only one who will get any serious play for Horse of the Year. I really don't see it from any of the others. "
Tepin is undefeated this year, including a win over males and a G1 at Royal Ascot. If she runs the table through the BC Mile, IMHO it would be a travesty if she ISN'T considered.

On TVG yesterday, they said one of their reporters asked the trainer why Tribal Fighter had been gelded despite the win. He said the colt was very anxious and nervous before a race, and they decided that the equipment change might help mellow him out...which it apparently has.

If our older males end up being inconsistent this year, and take turns beating each other, could we possibly see FOUR distaffers being given serious consideration for HOTY? Catch A Glimpse, Songbird and Tepin have all been pretty fabulous so far this year, and Beholder may be just getting started.
If Beholder takes the Pacific Classic, Catch A Glimpse the BC F&M Turf, Songbird the Distaff and Tepin the BC Mile, we may be looking at one of the greatest Girl Power years ever.  ;D
Yeah, I know...a lot of "IFs." But you have to admit that the fillies and mares have been consistently excellent so far.

Lani got so many fans that you decided to model your behavior after him?

I suspect that we'll see Victor on for 'Chrome's next work.

There was a reason for that poor performance.  :(
Thanks to all concerned about Firing Line's subpar run today. He scoped dirty and had lots of mucus. We will be patient before next run.

Hope he gets over whatever it is and returns looking more like the talented colt who was second to American Pharoah in the Derby.
