A nice field for the Cotillion..

Must be because of the 1$ million purse?

With Close Hatches opting for the Spinster that leaves the Beldame wide open for Princess of Sylmar.

I had also forgotten the Cotillion was 8.5 and not 9 furlongs.

This is a great chance for Untappable to cement her status as three year old champion female, if she hasn't already. However, Stopchargingmaria and Sweet Reason promise to offer a stern challenge.

Well, Untapable virtually sealed her champion three year old filly honors with her win in the Cotillion.

Her resume this year includes:

G1 Cotillion
5th G1 Haskell
G1 Mother Goose Stakes
G1 Kentucky Oaks
G2 Fairground Oaks
G3 Rachel Alexandra

The last winner of this race to become champion three year old filly was Blind Luck.

Her chief competition is:

Stopchargingmaria whose resume is impressive:

G1 Alabama Stakes
G1 Coaching Club American Oaks
G2 Black Eyed Susan

And she could add the G1 Beldame against older horses to her resume this Saturday.

However, while Close Hatches is not in the field, there are many quality older horses still there in Antipathy winner of the G3 Shuvee and has placed 3rd this year at Belmont in the Ogden Phipps, and Belle Galantey who won an allowance race at Belmont earlier this year over Antipathy before winning the G1 Delaware Handicap. Stopchargingmaria finished third at Belmont last year, but has yet to run there this year.

We'll see what happens. There is always Beholder to deal with in the Distaff.
