Per HRTV, he is in surgery to remove his spleen. :(
Just read that. Good thoughts and wishes for him.
Likewise. Fortunately a spleen is in the "nice to have" category, but not an "essential" part.
While the spleen isn't essential for survival, it does help fight bacteria and it stores platelets. My best friend and I both had mono as young adults. Mine caused high white cell issues most of my life; in her case her platelets were severely affected to where she had to have her spleen removed. She died from the meds she had to take (embolism) less than 2 years later.
The terrible irony is that Jv's agent, Angel Cordero, also had his spleen removed after a spill, and he's said it hastened his retirement. I really, really hope that is not the case with his talented protégé.
Thoughts and prayers to JV = and family = so unfortunate - yet hopefully he can recover = a fabulous rider and good guy = My star wishes for him ..
OMG I had no idea a spleen was that serious. I thought it was one of those things you could do without like an appendix. My prayers also for Johnny V and that this isn't the end of his great career! :'(
JV will miss rest of the year.

He's on the mend! His good buddy Mike Smith is making sure of that.

Hoping that JV recovers completely and returns to racing as strong as before his accident.
Wonderful news on Johnny V. He's been released from the hospital today.

Yay! Although considering how plush the Huntington Hotel is (that's not a typo!), it's not such a bad thing to stick around, if you don't have to be connected to a bunch of tubes!
