From DRF Jan 4th, never did see any update.

Bolt D'Oro will resume galloping this week after recovering from a pulled muscle that interrupted his training and ultimately postponed his 2018 debut.

Among the leading prospects for the 2018 Kentucky Derby, Bolt D'Oro underwent a nuclear scan this week that came back clean late Wednesday.

However, owner-trainer Mick Ruis said he will not make his first start of the season as scheduled Feb. 10 in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita.

Full story will be posted soon at drf.com.

Gulstream 8th Maiden$.
# 12 APOSTLE

A little background....
This guy was entered a few weeks ago at 8/1 and scratched reportedly with a little fever.

By MDO/AP Indy mare bringing $900,000 at OBS-Mar sale, he had some flashy drills prepping for his first outing.

I was actually thinking about making a little derby future wager before he ran, something like 200-1 would've been appropriate but he wasn't even listed yet in Vegas amongst the 250 possibles.

Today he's only 5/1 and more importantly only has one slow work since the scratch, hmmm!

Some other heavyweights in the race today....
Romans $300,000
Pletcher $725,000
Jerkens $525,000
plus a few others.

I think I'll sit on my hands today and wait for the stretchout off this 7F effort, just wanted to document somewhere my first longshot derby interest for bragging rights :lmao:

Don't forget, this week is absolutely FREE sheets at Thorograph https://www.thorograph.com/ where you'll find more trainer data than you care to know.  Unfortunately it'll do absolutely nothing to help clear up this current conundrum, good luck.

9th race @ Belmont Saturday
COURTESY OF THOROGRAPH

Small Bear (116) (20-1) – upon first look doesn't merit much attention—an 8 and
some 10s at two/three all on dirt, then three months later 3s and a 4 also on dirt
with two worse turf efforts. He's a dirt horse---what's he doing here? Moreover,
even with the 6 on turf last out, a figure which equates with four of the others in
here (SaW, L, H, T), horses that run on multiple surfaces usually show a
preference after a while and rarely are equally competent and/or effective on the
two or more surfaces. But in Small Bear's case there may be reason to think
otherwise. First off, sire Macho Uno gets runners that run on average just as fast on
dirt and turf--the TGI figure is the same for dirt and turf. Second, dam-sire El
Prado, a son of Sadler's Wells, a grandson of Northern Dancer, is a noted turf
influence. Third, full sister Fiaker shows fast tops on turf at routes on turf at three
and four, as does half-sister Stella Rose. Fourth, Small Bear's turf top, came after
two fast paired dirt efforts, earning figures, surface notwithstanding, as fast as any
in here except for the one Frostmourne top. In context the turf top is actually
surprisingly good as are three of the other four races in this skein—he's 5 points
better than he was in the winter and if he can run to that here especially given the
low weight and relatively inside post then he's a legitimate long shot. If... but the
price is there to take a shot.

3rd at 35/1 gets me absolutely nothing, not even the $10.00 he paid to show.

DelMar, their contest race today is event #8.

Based on the "experts" crystal balls, the #1 won't be anywhere close to the 5/1 ML, more like 9/5, which means I'll have to pass for contest purposes.

Evin Roman, as good as he is, seems to have a weakness navigating trips on the turf course, and from the far outside at 5/2 the #10 is another I'll have to pass on.

Bejarano on the #8 is perfectly logical, but 7/2 isn't exactly a good contest pick.

Kent and Gary are both on shippers with generous prices, they will be my underneaths for real money.

For contest purposes I landed on the old-time jockey/trainer combo of Carava and Pedroza, the #6 ROAD TEST, going for the new barn for the third time and first time on turf, should be in the thick of it from the get go, but a very difficult race to figure out?!?!

Curious......anybody else playing in this mythical $100/day contest?

Race 7 Thursday.
Can I just bet that the morning line guy missed on the #1 Lajatico when he made him 6/1?

The favorite, a Hollendorfer/MikeSmith entry is listed at 3/1, not sure why.

I won't be surprised if the 1 winds up being the favorite at 2/1 or so.

Too bad none of us know if he can revert back to last year's form, he'd be 4/5 if he can.

Look out for Buymeabond, tomorrow.  He likes Del Mar too.

just fyi, he didn't sneak by the house handicapper John Lies and probably impacts your dividends.....

RACE FIVE
#9 BUYMEABOND loves the Del Mar turf course. He seems like the kind of old pro
that will wake up and show his best with the change in scenery despite being winless this
year. He drops out of a tough starter handicap and picks up a very capable turf jockey.
#5 PATH OF DAVID finished well in his only start for his current trainer following a
claim. It is a good sign that the same excellent rider stays aboard and this gelding did
break his maiden over this course as a two-year-old. He should be closing from behind.
#4 WOODY'S FOLLY is an interesting longshot. He pulled against the rider last out in
a race he figured to need for the fitness following an eight-month absence. It sets him up
to improve today returning to a turf course over which he has won twice at decent odds.

2-Karma King @ 15/1

5 starts @ Del Mar producing 3 wins and 2 runner-up efforts.

Morning line seems out of whack !?!?!!?!?!

Dead freakin last, complete mystery.
But he was bet down to a reasonable 7/1 so I wasn't alone tearing up tickets.
