Racing / Top 5 U. S. horses in the World rankings
June 11, 2015, 11:16:35 PM
Just read an article about the latest World Rankings on Bloodhorse and noticed that the Top 5 ranked U. S. horses are ALL From the SoCal circuit ... in order ...

American Pharoah
Shared Belief
Firing Line
California Chrome
Dortmund

Being that I'm an unabashed SoCal homer ... I think that's very cool ... speaks very well for the ponies who run out here.  :)

Racing / Go West Marie ...
March 14, 2015, 07:47:57 PM
Go West Marie in the 5th race today(March 14th) at Santa Anita ...

Super impressive race which displayed awesome maneuverability and great determination ...

I'd highly recommend watching it on CalRacing ... She's definitely going on my watch list now!

Just felt like sharing it ... and thought it might be interesting to others.  :)

Being that the last new member joined in January .... I'm guessing that the means of getting registered here need to be reposted ...

I can't remember the exact details on how to do that ... can anybody help?  :)

Wasn't sure what to title this thread, but with a couple of my favorites(and big names in SoCal) coming back when we thought they were done ... I thought it might be good to have a thread to herald the returns of horses of note who return when we thought they were gone ...

The one who inspired me to start this thread was John Scott ... a favorite of mine and one of the more beautiful horses in recent years ...

After disappearing from the radar 14 months ago after a win in the Crystal Waters Stakes at Santa Anita on January 26, 2013 ... Alas he's back!!!

He's a multiple Stakes winner and multiple Graded Stakes placed and also an earner of 460K ... He was also 4th in the 2012 Breeders' Cup Mile ... Being that the older male crop out here is very weak right now, if he returns and is on form, he'll be a MUCH needed addition for SoCal racing!

Equibase has him working steadily since at least the beginning of April ... He started with 3 furlongs and has now worked up to 6 furlongs, with that work being a bullet ... So it looks like he may be close ..  :)

Career Statistics:

•Starts: 12
•Firsts: 6
•Seconds: 1
•Thirds: 2
•Earnings: $460,304

Heard it just now on the news ... But have to run to work now, so don't have time to post a link.

Only made sense ... Glad they came to the correct decision.

Time for a new TC!  :rhrse:

For better or worse ...

One of my faves ... Tres Borrachos returns to the track at Santa Anita this coming Thursday ...

Racing / Ultimate Eagle Update ...
March 25, 2014, 09:06:46 PM
For those who may care ... and anyone who knows me at all, knows I do!

I spoke with Mike Pender on Sunday and he said that Eagle has already gotten 40 mares in foal ... And they're shooting for 100 this year!

Not bad ... not bad at all for an opening year!

Can't wait to see some Eagle babies run!  :rhrse:

Mike also said he would get me a list of the mares he's covered ... But I'm guessing I'll have to be persistent if I'm ever gonna see that. He offered it unsolicited though ...  :)

Racing / Horses to watch!
March 05, 2014, 11:04:19 PM
Thought I'd start a new thread to pimp up and coming horses who catch our eye and intrigue us ...

My pimp for tonight?

Nashoba's Gold ... 1/2 sister to the phenomenal and ill-fated Nashoba's Key ...

I was at her debut race on February 8th ... A Maiden Special Weight which she won stylishly ... Rallying from the back of the back to nail them at the wire. She and another horse were the only 1st timers in the field of 8 ... She posted a 97 Equibase Speed Figure(Which I'm guessing is around a 92 Beyer or so) ...

She goes in The China Doll Stakes this coming Saturday at Santa Anita in a field of 13 ... If she pulls this one off, in my opinion, we'll be looking at a new star out here ...

And just like her Big sister, Smokin' Joe has the mount!

Racing / The Usual Q. T. is gone ...
February 21, 2014, 07:36:11 AM
This is deeply saddening ... He was one of my very favorites ... such a beautiful, beautiful horse ... and so damn young ... heartbreaking ...  :'( :'( :'(

Per his Facebook page ... posted 6 hours ago ...

QuoteWe are very sad to announce that Multiple Grade 1 Stakes Winner, THE USUAL Q. T. has passed away at the age of eight. He brought so much joy to our lives. Melinda and I would like to thank Jim and Melanie Bassett Cassidy for providing the best care for him during his racing career and in his retirement. He was a tremendous race horse and he will live on in our hearts forever!

If you haven't seen his race from today ... you need to!

He romped by 15 lengths today in a hand ride all the way ... Ultra-Impressive and very stylish win.

Viewing this race is highly recommended.  8)

Racing / The Robert B. Lewis Stakes

What an exceedingly disappointing field. SO weak, in fact, that Midnight Hawk could actually win it.

No ... Indianapolis, Shared Belief or Bayern ... Makes it extremely weak IMO ...  :-\

This being said ... I'm picking Chitu    :rhrse:

Racing / Two horses to watch next time out ...
January 04, 2014, 07:54:23 PM
FIRST timers ...

Rprettyboyfloyd and Prospector Alley ...

Both looked very slight of build, discombobulated and very green in the paddock. I discounted BOTH of them because of this.

Then the race begins ... They BOTH got very poor breaks ... may have actually gotten stuck in the gate ...

Lagged very far behind for the first half of the race ... then heading into the final turn made really nice moves that required a lot of focus and excellent maneuvering and closed exceedingly well ...

Rprettyboyfloyd ... Officially trailed by 11 lengths ... But you know how that works ... It was probably more like 15, just not at a recorded split. He got up for 2nd ... Officially losing by 3 1/4 ... He was 21-1.

Prospector Alley ... Officially trailed by 10 1/4 lengths ... Once again probably more like 15, just not at a split. He ended up 4th ... Officially losing by only 2 1/4 ... He was 17-1.

Being that they were 1st timers, seemingly disoriented in the paddock and blowing the starts ... These guys, IMHO, with the performances they put up once they gathered themselves are MUST plays at any kind of odds next time out!

I will be all over them!

If interested, I would suggest watching their replays from today on CalRacing.com.

Headed to the track now. Gonna stay until they kick me out tomorrow. Don't want it to end.

Racing / Shared Belief
December 17, 2013, 09:13:09 PM
I figured this guy really needs his own thread ...

I just rewatched his 3 races and ... wow ... Wow ... and WOW!!!

If this guy stays healthy ... LOOK OUT!!!

I am officially sold.

I got to go back and see him at the barn the day after his Futurity win. He was eating up like a champ, so it was pretty apparent that he came out of the race quite well. He's also a very friendly guy. Very at peace with people, very inquisitive and seems extremely smart.

To answer the queries I've seen by some ... He is a fairly little horse ... very much reminds me of I'll Have Another in stature. Talentwise and for what he was able to accomplish as a smallish horse, I loved IHA ... But ... I have to admit, barring any setbacks, especially at this point, I like Shared Belief better.

Plans are also to keep SB and Tamarando apart during the lead up The Derby.

They're also very pleased with Tamarando's progression. Love Tamarando too!

One day, when I take the time to figure out how to get my pics on here, I'll post some of him.  :)
