Please be patient while we try and restore the site after it was hacked. It may not be till the Florida Derby before we get it completely working but we're trying!

Surprised they didn't continue with her through Saratoga.

It's Songbird's race to lose. Carina Mia is a nice filly, but no match for the champ:

I'm shocked there is no topic on her!

Nevertheless, she worked this morning @ Dmr, 6F in 1:11 and change. Looks like she did it quite easily.

Next stop: Saratoga for the CCA Oaks, then the Alabama.

This was reminiscent of the BC Classic from 2 years ago. The #1 horse, who finished 2nd, was compromised along with 2 others at the start of this race. I am gobsmacked that Paulick said she "dominated." Well, yeah, after taking out 3 others at the start.

Looks like he won't be running against California Chrome anytime soon. He was beaten by double digits.

What a terrific, tough filly. She would have beaten the boys by over a second in the Belmont Derby.

There are SO many stellar turf fillies and mares this year, they seriously make the boys look bad.

Racing / Turf Milers of 2016
June 19, 2016, 09:43:03 AM
This year has brought with it a group of stateside turf horses that rival (we know Tepin does, at least) group horses in Europe. If only they could all run drug free like she did, but nevertheless, this is quite a list:

Midnight Storm (108 Beyer for his Shoemaker Mile)
Tepin
Miss Temple City
Obviously
Celestine

Have I left anyone out? When Lady Eli returns, she could be the next one added to the list.

Songbird's comeback race. Expect her to be 1/9 again.

Would have loved to see a match up with Enola Gray.

Now THAT was a performance! Two one-hundredths off Exclusive Quality's Belmont course record. The old guy is back. Was disappointed he wasn't in the Shoemaker Mile, but he sure looked good here.

This is to add to the almost 180 days he's been away from the track.  :headshake:

This not only qualifies for this topic but for the first crop sires of 2016.

Bodemeister had his first stakes winner with Bode's Dream taking the Astoria Stakes at Belmont today. She is now 2 for 2.

Breeding / First Crop Sires of 2016
June 05, 2016, 01:03:47 PM
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/thoroughbred-breeding/sire-lists/first-crop

Empire Way, whose connections had such high hopes for, never did much as a racehorse but he does have a G2 placing. He is a full brother to Royal Delta. I think he will blow away his stud fee in twrns of his ROI. Eventually, he nay wind up in Kentucky. This may be premature, but I do believe he will make a very good sire.

Creative Cause we already know is part of a good family, with Giant's Causeway on top and a G1 winning mare, who also foaled Destin, on the bottom.

Union Rags will do well with precocious offspring but I have my doubts with Gemologist.

Race 5
$100,000
1 Mile, 3 year olds & 10 Derby points.

1    1    Kristo (KY)               3/C    L    R Bejarano    118    J W Sadler    2/1
2    2    I'll Wrap It Up (KY)       3/C    L    T Baze    118    D F O'Neill    8/1
3    3    Life Is a Joy (CA)       3/G    L    C S Nakatani    118    J Hollendorfer    12/1
4    4    Ontology (KY)               3/C    L    M Gutierrez    118    S Callaghan    8/1
5    5    Top Fortitude (AZ)       3/C    L    K Stra    118    R K Owens    2/1
6    6    Midnight Hawk (KY)       3/C    L    M E Smith    118    B Baffert    8/5

I like the AZ bred, Top Fortitude. My only concern is 56 days since his last race.  Kristo for 2nd, with the Baffert horse Midnight Hawk running 3rd.

Midnight Hawk will either be a freak and run off, or he'll have to hang on for the dough. He wore blinkers first time out, this time they'll be off. We shall see.

$200,000
Race 8
8.5 Furlongs, 4 yo & up

1    Blingo (KY)                       5/G    L    V Espinoza    118    J A Shirreffs    7/2
2    Blueskiesnrainbows (VA)       5/H    L    M A Pedroza    118    J Hollendorfer    2/1
3    Majestic City (KY)               5/H    L    E A Maldonado    118    R W Ellis    5/1
4    Spud Spivens (CA)               6/G    L    C S Nakatani    118    H Moreno    12/1
5    Majestic Harbor (KY)       6/H    L    T Baze            118    S McCarthy    6/1
6    Rousing Sermon (CA)       5/H    L    R Bejarano    118    J Hollendorfer    5/2
7    Drill (KY)                               5/H    L    M E Smith    118    B Baffert            6/1

What's wrong with the older horse division in So Cal? A completely uninspiring field.

I suppose if I had to pick one, it would be  Blueskysnrainbows since he won last time out, though as a longshot old Spud looks good.
