Looks like he'll miss the G3 Native Diver on Sunday, which would have been a possible spot, but not with 4F works.

Oddly enough, Baffert also trained a 1997 version of Beach Bum, a Dixieland Heat colt who won 3 of 4 and showed some talent before disappearing.  (He did apparently sire four foals, so he didn't disappear as in "dead.")

Mastery runs Saturday in the Bob Hope at Del Mar.

Victor deserves the praise he doesn't seek for his charitable contributions--but I'd like to have seen him work out a stalking trip and then turn it on.  CC hasn't always been a front runner.  But frankly, I don't think it would have mattered.  Arrogate is just too good.

I agree he sort of lumbers--he doesn't have that economical float of AP for example.  But he IS a big, heavy horse, especially through the neck and shoulder.  I don't think its in him to be graceful!  But that shoulder does give him a lot of extension when he levels out.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers the "original" Kentuckian.  His sire, T V Lark, was my first fave.  And, I was there for Longden's Last Ride.

Yeah, I'm old.  :-(

Flavien, we hardly knew ye.  :-(

The big guy worked on even terms with the very fast Drefong this morning although the latter was given a six furlong time and Dortzilla 7F in 1.24 (faster than Masochistic, FWIW).

That flailing stride of St. Trinian's still gives me the creeps!

I think it was Mike Joyce of TVG who said, after American Cleopatra's gallop out, "We in the wagering world are a bunch of morons."

I won't red board, but she sure looked good in the post parade. Debutante next? I hope so.

Oops, I forgot that Gary rides Beholder!   :-[  I also agree he may not want 10 furlongs and CC is comfortable at the distance, but I'm not ready to say he can't turn the tables given his long layoff.

Good question why Baffert used Stevens rather than Bejarano.

It's possible that Stevens and Espinoza will be caught up with each other stalking and Dortzilla could sneak away.  Right now my strategy might be to put the pedal to the metal on D.  A slowish pace just let CC stay close.  But mostly I just hope they both show up in the PC with Beholder.  Great race by both.

Condolences also on the loss of "The Chili Man" at Emerald, another promising two year old.

Sorry he didn't make it.
