Title: Deputy Striker- full bro to Curlin
Post by: peeptoad on July 08, 2014, 09:13:58 AM
I was under the impression that this horse was retired after going 0-3 at the start of his career 2-3 years ago, but he is back!
Just posted a owrk at Los Al the other day:

Have there ever been champions that have been full siblings?

Fourstars Allstar and Fourstardave come to mind- there may be a few more that I am not thinking about off the top of my head.

Ha ha. I don't exactly have high hopes for this guy... just glad he's back on the track. Maybe he can win a few allowances/OCs.  :chickendance:

It is- and their are a lot more examples of horses being full siblings with that one was spectacular and the other did nothing.  Secretariat had a full sister named The Bride that didn't lift a hoof.  Serena's Song and Serena's Sister.  The Bride did produce a graded stakes winner in Argentina, and Serena's Sister is the dam of Doubles Partner. May not always be successful on the track, but it seems more likely that in the shed, the breeding will play out more successfully.

He was a solid 2nd off that long layoff. He set the pace, battled back in the lane and got beat. Probably got a little tired off the layoff, plus that loooong stretch at Los Al is not the easiest for some horses. I think it was an encouraging comeback race I look for to seeing him at SA.

He ran yesterday, pulled up and walked off on his own power. May have gotten tired, at least that what I'm hoping.

I was just about to post the same thing... hopefully he doesn't go to the sidelines again because he probably won't make it back to the track. Definitely a lesson that genes are not everything in this game!

He's a pretty guy, but unfortunately has never been much of a runner.

Koriner has never been high on him. It's the ownership who continues to want to run him.

I'd love to see DS all of a sudden run a race that matches his looks though ... he's stunning!

Not on vet's list, but a more complete one should be out today.  The more I think about it, the more it sounds like he was just plum tired.

That's my guess ... that or just didn't feel like running anymore ...

He's never been really interested in racing ... I think he needs to be a show pony ... he's gorgeous!  :)

He very much is, caught my eye in the post parade.
Not on the vet list that came out today, and no mention of anything in the notes (so far).  Maybe he can be a dressage horse. :)

Deputy Striker finally broke his maiden in race 4 at GG on Saturday. He went off as the slight favorite, so the drop in class (at least in terms of the track) did the trick.
